Recovering from a brain tumor, the last thing Saginaw County farmer Gary Gosen needed to think about was getting his corn and soybeans off the field. That was the consensus of a group of friends and neighbors who—without being asked—recently gave Gosen a hand with harvest.

Local farmers joined forces and—with five combines—harvested 300 acres of Gosen’s corn, estimated to total around 60,000 bushels.

“We donated our time to help a person in need because he would do the same thing if it was the other way around and it was somebody else,” said Gosen’s cousin, Joe Gosen.
